At first glance, one can almost imagine this photo as a scene from a far distant, inhabited world with a very large moon dominating its night sky. Alien astronomers, isolated atop an arid mountain, would be going about their business much as they do here on Earth. However, this picture was actually shot by photographer Yuri Beletsky at the Carnegie Las Campanas Observatory in Chile’s Atacama Desert, and the orb is, of course, our Moon surrounded by a grand halo.
